Whether you’re in the throes of a remodel or just beginning a brand new construction, having a positive home design consultation is important to your happiness and the success of your project. Many a person has suffered through the trenches of a remodel only to be dissatisfied with the finished product. The first step to a perfectly completed project is the home design consultation. If you go in to your consultation armed with an eye for professionalism and a penchant for clear communication, you’re more likely come out on the other side with your dream home intact. Read on for a few pointers to ensure that your consultation is everything you imagined it to be.

1. Find professionals

You’ve worked long and hard for the money to pay for your dream house, so we know costs are important. But saving a few bucks on a cheaper and less professional company in the Kansas City area will not bring you the unfettered happiness that comes with the completion of a building job perfectly done. You want to walk into a living room and marvel at the perfection of the picture window overlooking your backyard.

Put simply, a less professional company does a less professional job. A minute crack in a windowsill or door frame can serve as a constant reminder of what could have been if you don’t carefully select your home building company. So how do you know who the real professionals are when it comes to your consultation?

  • They don’t charge you. Professionals know that their work and reputation speak for them. They do not need to charge for consultations because they know their work is up to par. They don’t have to rely on hidden charges to supplement their profits. (HBC doesn’t charge, coincidentally.)
  • They come to you. How else is an expert going to ensure that you are getting exactly what you want, if not in your home to visualize it? (HBC always visits your Kansas City home.)
  • They offer choices. Window companies who only offer one type of window, siding, or roofing limit your choices and narrow your options. A professional company offers as much choice as possible in order to find the best possible solution for your home design consultation. (HBC offers numerous manufacturer options, choices, and products.)
  • They provide honest cost estimates. There’s never any beating around the bush. These guys are always realists. You may wince slightly at projected time estimates, but you can be sure that there won’t be any surprises later. (HBC does this, too.)
  • They answer all your questions without pressuring you to sign. Professional companies want you to be happy, no matter what, because even if you change your mind about your project, you may mention it how pleasant and helpful the company was to a co-worker who is looking into an expansion. No one wants to be thought of as a nag. (HBC doesn’t do this, though.)

You see the initials HBC. Homeland Building Concepts consists of an expert group of professionals who are more than competent in their work. They meet all the above requirements and will listen to all of your home design nightmares without judgment. Then they’ll make sure those nightmares never come true. (Happily, you just happen to be right next to a link for HBC’s excellent design services- congratulations!)

2. Communicate clearly

Remember all that time you spent wishing and hoping and thinking and praying, planning and dreaming? It won’t mean a thing if you don’t communicate clearly. Don’t be afraid to say what you want. If you have a hard time describing it, that’s okay. It’s the job of the professionals (like those at HBC) to sort it out. Have them modify and edit the design until it is exactly what you pictured- remember that you will have to live with it and no one else.

On the flip side, we’ve all heard about those people. The ones who are badgering micromanagers that will never be happy with a finished product? Hopefully you don’t work for one of those kinds of people. We can’t imagine what that would be like. All of HBC’s customers in Kansas City are always super polite and respectful, and as a result we are able to work together as a team to design the perfect remodel, every single time.

3. Follow up and stay in touch

After your consultation is over, no one should press you to make a decision. Homeland Building Concepts knows that sometimes, people need to sleep on it. Take a day or two and talk it over with your spouse, business partner, or dog- anyone who is qualified to help you make an informed decision- before signing a contract. Once you decide, then it’s time to dial the number of your home building professional (here’s HBC’s contact information, that’s convenient) and get started.

Remember to stay in touch with us throughout your project. Contact us anytime with any questions about your construction. Because we are a professional company and pride ourselves on a job well done, we are always ready to answer your questions at a moment’s notice.

Remember, HBC’s goal is to make your dreams comes true while trampling every home design nightmare you’ve ever had. And that’s at no additional charge.
